May Happenings
STICK DOG VISITS MSW
On Tuesday, May 19th, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students were treated to a visit from author/illustrator Tom Watson. Tom talked about his Stick Dog books, the writing process, and he also gave a Stick Dog drawing lesson. With paper and pencil in hand, students created the many characters that appear in his Stick Dog series. Children were able to purchase books and Mr. Watson signed their copies.

Rock out this summer at the Park Ridge Public Library!
On Tuesday, May 12th, librarians Miss Katie and Miss Staci, visited students in Kindergarten-5th grade to introduce the Park Ridge Public Library's summer reading clubs. All students are encouraged to stop by the library to sign up. This is not limited to Park Ridge residents.

March Happenings
Our library is lucky to have new books! This year's Book Fair was very successful and our own library was the beneficiary of 37 new titles. We are fortunate to have obtained these beautiful books, which include fiction and nonfiction, mystery, humor, historical fiction and adventure. There are also Newbery Award winners and additions to our student's all-time favorite series, like Captain Underpants, The Heros of Olympus and the Dork Diaries.

February Happenings
On February 18th and 19th, Mrs. Staci Greenwald from Park Ridge Public Library visited the 4th and 5th grade students to introduce a new program called BOOK MADNESS. Modeled after March Madness, Book Madness offers students the chance to vote for their favorite books. Participants may also fill out a bracket with their picks of the books that will win each face-off.

January Happenings
The library was a busy place on Sunday, January 25 during the Catholic Schools Week Open House. Everyone who walked into the library was given a ticket for the Book Basket Raffle. With nine different baskets overflowing with books to choose from, the decision was not easy. Students also had an opportunity to make a bookmark and listen to stories.
AUTHOR VISIT
On Thursday, January 22, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students enjoyed a spirited conversation with author, James Riley. Mr. Riley is the author of the Half Upon a Time trilogy. Mr. Riley shared his experiences publishing his novels, his love of cats, and his childhood desire to be Luke Skywalker. Our library was fortunate enough to add these books to our collection. The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds is the story of Vashti who is looking to "make her mark" and try her hand at painting. Kindergarten, First and Second Grade students enjoyed the inspiring story during their library time and with a little encouragement made their own mark.

Accelerated Reader
The end of the 1st trimester produced a jungle full of students wild about reading! Many 3rd, 4th and 5th graders worked hard, read a lot and reached their AR goal of 4 books. Next trimester they will shoot for 5 books each.

October Happenings
Preschoolers from Mrs. Knieling's class hold up their

On October 7th, the kindergartners had a visit from the Park Ridge Public Library.

THE GREAT PUMPKIN DECORATING CONTEST 2014
Last year 21 families participated in the pumpkin decorating contest. This year there were 38!!! Families showed their love of books and transformed pumpkins into amazing book characters. During Halloween week, the entire MSW community voted for their favorite pumpkin. The top five winners received Barnes and Noble gift cards - to buy more books! Click here to see all entries.
