2017-2018 School yearMay:February:BOOK FAIR
Despite cold temperatures and a snow storm, the Scholastic Book Fair went on! Thanks to the hard work of many parent volunteers, our students had the opportunity to purchase new books. Our library also benefited from the Book Fair, adding more than 100 titles to our shelves! New fiction titles, graphic novels, populars series, nonfiction titles, and beautiful picture books are now part of our collection. Thank you!! THE CUPCAKE CHALLENGE
On February 12th, at Roosevelt School, MSW Battle of the Books members participated in the final competition against other area schools. Our students read 32 books and attended practices on Wednesdays at lunch time to prepare themselves for each battle, culminating in the Cupcake Challenge. MSW students represented the school with respect and good sportsmanship and made us proud. Students and family members were then treated to yummy cupcakes.
January:Let the Battle Begin!
4th and 5th grade members of Battle of the Books are ready for the competition. On Thursday, January 11th, MSW hosted a practice battle against Saint Paul of the Cross. Students from SPC arrived after school and made their way to the library where they answered questions about 32 different books that participants are expected to read. It was good practice for both schools. MSW students will compete is their first battle of 2018 on Thursday at the Park Ridge Public Library at 4pm. Come by the PRPL and cheer on your favorite readers! December:The Getaway, book 12 in Jeff Kinney's wildly popular series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, is out! Our library has 3 new copies that are in very high demand. A lottery was held to determine who would be the first to check it out of the library, and the winners are: Nathan O., Elleanor P, and Matthew D.
